Virginia Henderson’s Theory Name Institution Affiliation According to Virginia Henderson’s life, some of the factors that have captured my attention are how hardworking and dedicated Virginia was especially as the health of the patients are concerned. Her concern about the health of the people makes her go an extra mile and produce some books that can be used by the patients to take care of themselves in the absence of the nurses or the books can be used by the healthy people to guide them on how to take care of their sick relatives (Vera, 2014). And also I have been surprised by the number of knowledge that Virginia had acquired from different institutions just to understand more about nursing and the human health in general. It is also to my surprise how Virginia had a huge task to handle in her lifetime and how she managed all these activities without any form of failure being experienced. Virginia was inspired by her dedication to know and define the uniqueness and the focus of the nursing practice. During her definition of this unique focus, she ended up coming with the theory which has much emphasis on the patient’s independence that can, in turn, fasten their recovery after hospitalization (Vera, 2014). And also she was inspired by her findings concerning the health of the patients. On the same note, the fact that there were no guidelines that could be followed by the nurses to help the patients get out of their state, she decides to come up with the theory to act as a guideline to the nurses as well as to the patients. In the four concepts that are in the metaparadigm, Virginia explains to them as follows: individuals have some basic needs that are related to their health or in one way, or the other is meant to keep their bodies healthy. In the environment, however, she states that everyone needs to maintain the environment in a conducive manner so that those who are residing in it remain healthy (Vera, 2014).
