Free Stereotypes Coursework Example

Stereotypes(Name)(Course)February 24, 2018(Faculty)StereotypesSociety, at times, bestows harmful stereotypes to specific groups of people. For instance, it is a typical stereotype that women are not fit to be leaders. Another stereotype is about African Americans, who are believed to be violent and criminals. These stereotypes create inequality because the marginalized groups are deprived of privileges. They may be denied employment opportunities, public services, access to information which results in hatred or violence. Historically, stereotyping and the idea of “othering” has been present for a long time. Case in point, in the 1950’s, there was a lot of segregation of whites and blacks. Black people were prohibited from using certain restaurants and could not sit next to whites in a bus (Khanacademy, 2018). Black people were seen to be inferior and not deserving of good things. Nonetheless, for my part, I plan to disregard any preconceived notions brought on by society when dealing with workmates and all other individuals in the future. ReferenceKhanacademy. (2018).
