Perception and Interpersonal Interventions Name Institution Perception and Interpersonal Interventions Maintaining good interpersonal relationships requires one to be assertive, have the ability to resolve conflicts, communicate with others efficiently and be emotionally intelligent. Assertiveness is the way people express themselves and satisfy their needs without hurting others. People who are not assertive often get stress especially when they have the mentality that their rights are being violated. Assertiveness can be demonstrated nonverbally through speaking clearly without hesitation. To resolve conflicts effectively, a three-pronged approach should be taken into account; this should involve active listening, identification of points of view and exploration of alternative solutions. This approach is efficient as it ensures parties in conflict are satisfied. Assertiveness also demands proper communication skills, which include better listening, disagreeing by declaring the point of agreement and avoiding why questions among others. In addition, time management is essential when observing a positive life as it enables one to achieve timely goals (Horowitz & Strack, 2010). Further, one requires social support, which protects an individual from the adverse effects of stress. Selective awareness is the ability to decide whether to concentrate on the good or the bad. Being optimistic in this case can be less stressing. Life demands a lot of consciousness as we become adapted to repeated things. People have different types of behavior, for instance, those with type A are highly predisposed to coronary heart diseases as they elicit traits such as insecurity, impatience, aggressiveness and a sense of time urgency among others. On the other hand, people in the type B category evoke an opposite behavior pattern and are less prone to coronary heart diseases (Horowitz & Strack, 2010).
