Free Nature of the American society by Whitman Coursework Example

Discussion Module Name Student Institution Discussion Module From his readings, it is evident that Whitman has a pluralist vision for the nature of the American society. There is an ongoing debate on whether his perception regarding this topic should be extended as a right attitude to the rest of the world. According to the Author, America represents a teaming nation of various countries. In my perspective, I do not fully support Whitman’s idea since the American society represents a world of spontaneous fragmentation. Most authors are against Whitman’s idea since they view America as a globalized state comprising various dimensional nations. Evidently, the differences that exist within the different countries in America tend to build the overall nature of the continent. It would be unfair to dismiss the uniqueness depicted by each country based on the practices, beliefs and customs. As Deleuze states, “America is a land of fragmentation” implies that the differences within each nation are the ones that lead to the formation of America. Additionally, Whitman’s pluralist vision is quite biased since it focuses on generalization instead of acknowledging the various experiences faced by different ethnic groups. Based on the author’s argument, he is clearly ignorant of the struggles that some minority groups in America have had to face (Whitman, 2007). Authors such as Deleuze are able to acknowledge the differences depicted amongst the various ethnic groups. Although Leaves of Grass is a well-composed read, it does not represent the true nature of America. Based on the book, it is evident that Whitman ignores the challenges that other ethnic groups have had to face over the years due to cases of inequality and racism. Therefore, it would be illogic to extend Whitman’s perception n to the rest of the world since his opinion is biased and one-sided. Reference Whitman, W. (2007).
