Early Childhood Education Name: Institutional affiliation Reggio Emilia Reggio Emilia is the work of Loris Malaguzzi who was a Psychologist in Italy. The approach focuses on educating both preschool and primary school children. The approach is made to the principles of respect, responsibility and the community (Rinaldi, 2006). To meet the principles, the students are driven towards a self-guided curriculum that helps them explore and discover their potential. Assumptions The approach assumes that the children are responsible for their personality and they shape it during their early age. Further, the approach holds the assumption that, the children express their ideas in hundreds of different languages (Rinaldi, 2006). Secondly, it provides that children should be given an opportunity to learn through their own experiences, for example through touching, observing and listening (Rinaldi, 2006). Thirdly, children should be allowed to explore the endless ways and opportunities at their disposal. Finally, the approach allows children to have relationships with other children and other material which adds value to their lives. He added that that mode of teaching does not leave traces in their teaching practice. He, therefore, suggested that it is important for the teachers to find a way to communicate throughout the children’s evolving experience (Cadwell, 2003). Magda Gerber further said that, if someone taught a child how to do a certain thing, then, that person takes away the child’s opportunity to discover how it is done himself or herself (Hall, 2010).
