Professor’s name Course name Date Chinese Immigrants in USA Chinatown is a town situated in North America in between the Grant Avenue and Stockton Street in San Francisco, California, being the oldest city with the largest population of Chinese people living outside of Asia. The perception that the Americans have about the indication of being in Chinatown is because of the roofing famously, Pagoda and for their gates which are dragon type. That makes the town distinctive in some way from the rest of the American cities whether in San Francisco, Las Vegas or even Los Angeles. Due to the love and concern for their political, economic and their social well-being, the Chinese immigrants had an urge to stay in a confined place with the rest of the China people that had previously settled in the area, Chinatown, San Francisco. However, the earthquake that was experienced in Chinatown in 1906 changed the racial perceptions and increased the racism in the town which spurs right from the time the city got the fire. The fire department as an example put much of its resources on the wealthy residence of the nearby Nob Hill which the Americans lived and neglected the Chinese to be blazed down yet they paid the taxes like the rest of the residents. The America's perception of Chinatown as a state filled with drugs and prostitution is with some sense that the Americans never wanted the place to belong to the immigrants from China. For Chinatown was a Centre of tourist attraction, and to some case, the tour guides could attest that the sentiment made of Chinatown is to some sense prone to hyperbole. After Chinatown had been burnt down by the fires, a local businessman, Look Tin Eli hired architectures, T. Peterson Ross and engineer A.W Burgen to rebuild it though the two architects neither had a clue on how China appeared.
