The microbiology lab report
Introduction
The aseptic method is a significant and necessary laboratory experience which is very necessary for the field of microbiology. Most of the Microbiologists prefer using the techniques as it is applicable for most of their procedures such as inoculating media, transferring and isolation of pure cultures as well as performing the microbiological tests. Additionally, it helps in eliminating of contamination of the specimen used in the microbial experiments. Materials and the methods
Voges-ProskauerUse two MR-VP broth tubes where one is labeled one E.coli and the other one S. epidermidis. Then inoculate the two test tubes with the appropriate culture. They are placed in the incubator at 37 degrees C for one day. After small incubation amount of each culture is put in a test-tube where one adds 6-8 drops of methyl orange (Li et al. 38). For the remaining part of the culture, one adds 12 drops of Barrett's reagent. Then one observes the tubes for the gradual formation of pink to red color.
Motility testing
Incubate E.coli and S. epidermidis for one day. Then make A Wet mold of the two cultures. Two motility medium are labeled E.coli and S. epidermidis respectively where the inoculated cultures are put (Bredenoord et al. 786). The two test tube is then incubated 370 for one day from which one record the results. Carbohydrate fermentation
Three red phenol tubes labeled E.coli and another three labeled S. epidermidis. The Durham tubes are then put upside down on the six phenol tubes. Then inoculate the phenol tubes. They are then placed in incubator 370 for about one day (Phipps 569). Then observe the color of the phenol tubes.
